Oscar’s Red Carpet Fashion

I don’t care about the Oscar’s, or should I say, I don’t care about watching the Oscars.  However, I’m awfully interested in knowing what everyone was wearing.  You know I love to give my two cents on celebrity fashion, so here we go….

Taraji and Viola took my breath away.  I really liked the gold  Reem Acra on Viola, as gold compliments women who wear a darker shade of skin, in my opinion.  Although we just saw Taraji kill in a white red carpet gown, she definitely shook it up with this tiered gown by Roberto Cavali, and I love the luscious color of her clutch.  Although she didn’t get the trophy, she was still a winner!  Both ladies had flawless hair and makeup!

Alicia Keyes looked chic, and sexy in this gown by Armani Prive.  The color is exquisite on AK, and I even like her Jokeresque smile.

Queen Latifah certainly does know how to work with what she has.  She absolutely sparkles in this navy satin number with Swarovski embroidery by Georges Chakra.  I love Latifah…just because you have a larger frame doesn’t mean that you can’t look like royalty.  A def thumbs up!

Working the Red Carpet @ the NAACP Image Awards Pre-Show

These lovely ladies continue to put their foots in fashion, well except Angela Simmons, who just can’t seem to find her way through the fashion jungle.  I have hope for her yet, and I think that as she matures, she’s going to find her look, however this just isn’t it.  I’ve alway thought Angela was pretty cute, but all that hair isn’t going to cut it.  I don’t like the jumpsuit’s plunging neckline, and the fact that her bra is showing.  The whole thing just looks ill-fitting.  As her older, and more stylish sister, Vanessa needs to take Angie under her stylish wing.

Keep trying, one day you will get it right.

Older sister Vanessa’s look is so 50’s, as evidenced by the skirt, meets rocker chick with the leather jacket.  She looks young, fresh, and fun.  I just wish I had a better look at those shoes, because they look like they may be FEROCIOUS! Anyway, this isn’t surprising, because I can’t remember a time when Vanessa didn’t bring her A-game.

Love the look Vanessa!

Taraji killed it in her yellow/orange dress.  She looks like a walking flame, and a definite Oscar caliber actress!  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she will take it home.  She’s most definitely becoming more evolved with her fashion choices, as the dress, hair, and makeup are flawless.  I’m not all that crazy about the shoes, but I’ll overlook them.  Has she been getting style tips from another Oscar winning actress?

The dress is ab-fab, go on Taraji!

Look at Tatyana Ali looking gorgeous.  She doesn’t look that much different from when she played Will’s younger cousin on the Fresh Prince.  I like this dress on her.  It’s very age appropriate for the 30 year old actress/singer.  Once again, the shoes don’t inspire me, but she looks gorgeous.

Benjamin Button… A Definite Must See…

Posted in Movies, Taraji P. Henson with tags on February 2, 2009 by Kenya

So I finally got some me-time, and watched Benjamin Button, and I’m glad I did.  The movie moved me, disturbed me, fascinated me, and shook me up.  I cried, I laughed, and I LOVED IT!  I hope it wins every single award it’s nominated for!  Taraji did her thing as Queenie, and I liked Brad Pitt in Legends of the Fall, but as Benjamin Button he blew me away.  He’s got such a quiet, brooding quality.  Everyone put their hearts and souls  into this film, and it was just plain weird to think of someone aging in reverse.  Well if you haven’t seen it, please do, and although it takes an outstanding movie to move me enough to buy it on DVD, I will definitely be adding this one to my collection.  Let’s keep our fingers crossed for Miss Henson at the upcoming Oscars for her portrayal.

Queenie (Taraji P. Henson) rescues baby Benjamin from her doorstep. She and Brad both deserve Oscars for their respective roles. Go see this movie!

Taraji strikes a pose on the red carpet in Los Angeles

Taraji strikes a pose on the red carpet in Los Angeles

I”ve always like Taraji P. Henson, especially in Hustle and Flow, where she played a mentally challenged, pregnant, hoe ( Did I fuck up?).   She didn’t win the Award for her role in the movie Benjamin Button with Brad Pitt, but she sure did stun on the red carpet in a white Herve Leroux gown.  Taraji was flawless from head to toe. The hair was simple, the make-up was understated, and the dress was  elegant, without being over the top.  In order to pull of such a form fitting white dress you’d better have on some fantastic foundation garments, or be  in tip-top shape, as white will show every ripple, dent, and roll on your body.  I’m hearing nothing but good things about Benjamin Button, so I guess that’s what I’ll be doing tonight.  Anyway, Taraji…keep up the good work, and I’m sure your time to shine is right around the corner.
