It’s Curtains For Beyonce….

Posted in Beyonce Kowles, fashion, Funky Fashion Faux Pas, Movies, red carpet with tags , , , , , , , , , on April 28, 2009 by Kenya

Well, Beyonce’s subpar thriller “Obsessed” opened to the tune of 28 1/2 milli…well at least that’s what’s being told, I really wouldn’t put it past her “machine” to inflate numbers.  Anyway, I heard that she was as corpse like as ever.  I myself have no interest in seeing it because I’ve seen “Play Misty for Me” with Clint Eastwood, and Jessica Walters, and “Fatal Attraction” with Glenn Close and Michael Douglas…and I have no desire to see a bad copy, although if you’d like to see it without paying, I’ll give you a link!  Anyway, enough about the movie, let’s talk about the premeire, and that dress she wore on the red carpet.  Let’s dissect this mess, because that’s what I love to do.

It was typical Beyonce on the red carpet for her movie obsessed.  She crossed her T’s and dotted her I’s, as usual.

man, this chic knows we have the gun, yet she keeps giving us the ammunition.  On the bright side, at least she took the time to shave her armpits, and  had the decency not to show up with chipped fingernail polish.  Love you Bey!

Oscar Red Carpet Fashion….Part Deux

Posted in Award Shows, Beyonce Kowles, fashion, Funky Fashion Faux Pas, red carpet with tags , , , , , , on February 23, 2009 by Kenya

For every well dressed red carpet walker, there’s a couple who should have stayed home.  It pains me to say that Jada Pinkett was a definite dissapointment in Roberto Cavalli Resort.  This gown would have been ab-fab if it fit.  Jada is a tiny woman, and this gown just seems to swallow her up.  There is no evidence that Jada has a waist, and she could have used the services of a tailor to have it altered.  As it stands, she should have left it in the closet.

Jada I know you're in there somewhere!

Am I the only one who’s too through with Beyonce’s obsession with Mermaid Couture?  You can always count on this one to show up on the red carpet in something that sparkles, looks cheap, or has mermaid fins, or in most cases…all three!

Beyonce loves all things metalic, tight, and fishy!

Now I’m not saying the dress is hopeless, like alot of others are,  because I can see the potential, so I’m going to give it a re-mix.  It seemed that every gown on the red carpet was floor length.  Cut the mermaid fins off, and bring the length to just under the knees, and I believe it would have looked alot better.  The pattern seems to be too damn much.  One rule to remember when wearing patterns, is that if your a small woman, keep the pattern small.  This dress could have worked if it were shorter.  I’m also glad she passed up that horrible “Sasha” hair don’t, but some chandelier earrings, and maybe a gold cuff  would have balanced her out nicely.  Oh and lose the robot pose already!

Oscar’s Red Carpet Fashion

Posted in Ab-Fab!, Award Shows, fashion, red carpet, Taraji P. Henson with tags , , , , , , , , , , on February 23, 2009 by Kenya

I don’t care about the Oscar’s, or should I say, I don’t care about watching the Oscars.  However, I’m awfully interested in knowing what everyone was wearing.  You know I love to give my two cents on celebrity fashion, so here we go….

Taraji and Viola took my breath away.  I really liked the gold  Reem Acra on Viola, as gold compliments women who wear a darker shade of skin, in my opinion.  Although we just saw Taraji kill in a white red carpet gown, she definitely shook it up with this tiered gown by Roberto Cavali, and I love the luscious color of her clutch.  Although she didn’t get the trophy, she was still a winner!  Both ladies had flawless hair and makeup!

Alicia Keyes looked chic, and sexy in this gown by Armani Prive.  The color is exquisite on AK, and I even like her Jokeresque smile.

Queen Latifah certainly does know how to work with what she has.  She absolutely sparkles in this navy satin number with Swarovski embroidery by Georges Chakra.  I love Latifah…just because you have a larger frame doesn’t mean that you can’t look like royalty.  A def thumbs up!

Queen Halle

I’ve always admired Halle Berry’s fashion choices, and this one is no different.  Here’s Halle gracing the red carpet, and putting others to shame at the Essence  Black Women In Film Awards Luncheon in Los Angeles.  I love the dress by Reem Acra, but the back is just a bit fussy for me, but despite that Halle pulls it off flawlessly.  I also adore the CL peeptoe, platform, slingbacks.

Love Those Shoes….Solange

Posted in Ab-Fab!, Diva Wannabes, fashion, Love Those Shoes!, red carpet, Solange Knowles with tags , , , , , on February 12, 2009 by Kenya

She does it again, Solange is becoming one of my fave shoe girls.  I may not like her clothes at times, but I like her taste in shoes most of the time.  Here she is working the red carpet at the 6th Annual Women’s Day Red Dress Awards in New York City, where she also performed.  I love the necklace, the dress, and the shoes are ultra-cute. However, the hair doesn’t fit, and makes her face look a bit…strong.  I was digging the straight style she’s been rocking lately, but I appreciate the fact that she’s not afraid to change up her style on a regular basis.  The eyebrows are also a bit over the top thick.   Beyonce may be cuter, but she doesn’t have a fraction of Solange’s creativity or personal style.

Working the Red Carpet @ the NAACP Image Awards Pre-Show

Posted in Ab-Fab!, Angela Simmons, Award Shows, fashion, red carpet, Taraji P. Henson, Tatyana Ali, Vanessa Simmons with tags , , , , , , , , on February 12, 2009 by Kenya

These lovely ladies continue to put their foots in fashion, well except Angela Simmons, who just can’t seem to find her way through the fashion jungle.  I have hope for her yet, and I think that as she matures, she’s going to find her look, however this just isn’t it.  I’ve alway thought Angela was pretty cute, but all that hair isn’t going to cut it.  I don’t like the jumpsuit’s plunging neckline, and the fact that her bra is showing.  The whole thing just looks ill-fitting.  As her older, and more stylish sister, Vanessa needs to take Angie under her stylish wing.

Keep trying, one day you will get it right.

Keep trying, one day you will get it right.

Older sister Vanessa’s look is so 50’s, as evidenced by the skirt, meets rocker chick with the leather jacket.  She looks young, fresh, and fun.  I just wish I had a better look at those shoes, because they look like they may be FEROCIOUS! Anyway, this isn’t surprising, because I can’t remember a time when Vanessa didn’t bring her A-game.

Love the look Vanessa!

Taraji killed it in her yellow/orange dress.  She looks like a walking flame, and a definite Oscar caliber actress!  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that she will take it home.  She’s most definitely becoming more evolved with her fashion choices, as the dress, hair, and makeup are flawless.  I’m not all that crazy about the shoes, but I’ll overlook them.  Has she been getting style tips from another Oscar winning actress?

The dress is ab-fab, go on Taraji!

Look at Tatyana Ali looking gorgeous.  She doesn’t look that much different from when she played Will’s younger cousin on the Fresh Prince.  I like this dress on her.  It’s very age appropriate for the 30 year old actress/singer.  Once again, the shoes don’t inspire me, but she looks gorgeous.

Beyonce Spotted Looking Rough Around The Edges

Posted in Beyonce Kowles, fashion, Funky Fashion Faux Pas, It's a Damn Shame, red carpet on February 11, 2009 by Kenya

Look, I know these past two weeks have been hard on the robot diva, what with being threatened by  a seventy-one year old woman, losing the Grammy to Aicia Keyes, and watching Jennifer make a magnificent come back, then the drama that put Rihanna at the center of attention, not to mention being ditched staying at home while your husband party’s with your sister…well it can really take it’s toll on you.  Beyonce finally poked her head out of a mouse-hole, and showed up in Beverly Hills and this is the best she could do…

This girl is hopeless!

This girl is hopeless!

The necklace is a statement piece, and the outfit didn’t need anything else going on.  The whole look is too black, too busy.  And what’s with those fingernails?  She took the time to get dressed, but not to have a manicure?  I mean it’s not like she grinds in an office all day, and then comes home to tend to a bunch of children, so there’s really no excuse in coming to an event with chipped, black nail polish.  Yuck, that’s tacky and makes me wonder what else she skipped.  Ever notice how her smile stops short of reaching her eyes? Beyonce with all of her fame, and money is miserable.  I feel sorry for her sometimes.
