Has It Been 25 Years?

Whoa!  Do any of you realize that it’s been 25 years since Def Jam was founded?   Now I officially feel old, because I remember those that made the label great.  Here’s an old photo of the dynamic duo.  Russell looked like an old man, even  back then!

Russell Simmons and Rick Rueben started Def Jam records from a college dorm room.

Run DMC was the labels first breakthrough artists.  Where were you when you first heard classics like Hard Times, My Adidas, Peter Piper, Dumb Girl, King Of Rock, Sucker MC’s?  Were you even born?
Wow! I forgot how tight the jeans were back then

I like LL Cool J in his “Radio” days, but sometime after “Bigger and Deffer” he started to get soft.

Remember LL in Krush Groove? "Box!"

The Beastie Boys’ “License To Ill” is still in heavy rotation in my car.  Paul Revere, Hold It Now…Hit It, Brass Monkey are all faves.  Since the Beastie’s, many white rappers have tried and failed, these boys didn’t break the mold, they shattered that mofo.

They look like they would turn out a party, and not in a good way

Pay attention all of you watered-down rappers, this was some of  the purest hip-hop.  You candy-boys could learn alot from the pioneers!
